ACS Shave to Save event went virtual on April 3

Event surpassed its goal of $230,000

For the past 19 years, Shave to Save has helped raise funds for our Kansas City Hope Lodge community. Men and women alike offer their hope and hair in making Shave to Save one of the North Region's most fun, unique, and heartwarming events.

Shavees commit to raising at least $5,000 and shave their head in honor or memory of cancer patients. Due to the need for social distancing and our shelter-in-place orders, clippers were delivered to each shavee and they were asked to record themselves shaving their heads. Their videos were compiled into one, which was shown at the end of the event's live fundraiser on YouTube and Facebook. It was a fun, extra way to thank participants.

Our top participant, Scott Helt, raised $38,554. In total, 20 people raised more than $125,000 for the Kansas City Hope Lodge. Meet all Shave to Save participants in this video.

The entire 2020 Shave to Save event surpassed its goal of $230,000 by raising $233,500 (gross), and just under $29,000 during the virtual event on the GiveSmart platform on Friday, April 3. The  event included a a silent auction that opened for bidding on March 27, and the premier auction and live paddle raise happened live (virtually) on April 3.

Since opening in 2000, Hope Lodge Kansas City has served more than 23,500 patients and their caregivers. To date, more than 270 Shave to Save participants have contributed $1.8 million to the operating budget of the Lodge. For more information about the Shave to Save event, visit shavetosave.org.
